Each month, inmates from the Big Island incarcerated in an Arizona prison, can earn a 30 minute closed circuit video chat with family members on our campus. This occurs on the second Saturday of each month.

This is a three person ministry. One person runs the equipment and keeps times on the visit, deals with the prison, etc., if there are technological difficulties or other snafus. One person checks folks in and makes sure protocol is followed (rules are provided by the Department of Public Safety), and the third person provides snacks and drinks for the family.

From Marj, who participated in the ministry, “This ministry is close to my heart. I have made friendships, celebrated with families whose inmate is released and felt sadness for an inmate whose family doesn’t show up or if the inmate isn’t allowed to see their family due to a last minute infraction.”
